ThisLCD display only works with I2C, that's because of the extra PCB board on the backside which makes it easy to connect to an Arduino Nano for example as I do it personally, if you have the Arduino IDE installed on your computer open it and go to Tools, Manage Libraries or use the hotkey combo CTRL SHIFT L to open up the Library Manager and then search for the LiquidCrystal_PCF8574_Test library, install that library and with that library you have a test sketch in the Examples that you can use to get familiar with the code to get this display working.
