Q: Does this really help with tartar plaque and calculus on teeth?

Bermuda This is not an "Ultrasonic scaler." 12,000 t per minute is not ultrasonic. In fact, 12,000 t per second is not ultrasonic. It would have to offer 17,000 Hz or higher to qualify as ultrasonic.

Bermuda Yes, it can be heard by animals, but not by humans. According to Wikipedia, "Ultrasound is sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing. Ultrasound is no different from 'normal' (audible) sound in its physical properties, except in that humans cannot hear it. This limit varies from person to person and is approximately 20 kilohertz (20,000 hertz) in healthy, young adults. Ultrasound devices operate with frequencies from 20 kHz up to several gigahertz."
