The item is mostly plastic and the tubes were not glass on the surface. The florescent tubes are fairly thin, slightly bigger than a standard straw diameter. It looks pretty basic when not on. If you are expecting a shop sign quality neon sign this is not that. When turned on it comes to life and gives the florescent sign magic. It is bright and the colours are vibrant. It not a American dinner quality neon but for the price I was please.
