These are rather impressive, for the price. You should not expect them to be as good as Fluke's, or the other big brands, but they are not pure junk, either. They have internal rails to keep the cap aligned. And, there is a track in the cap that automatically aligns the head plate of the pin. They are intended for small gauge wire, but I managed to solder 16AWG wire onto the head plate, without having to widen the wire hole, in the cap. I stripped off a long length of the thick insulation and covered the bare wire with heat shrink, to make a long, thin wire lead, that fit through the cap hole. You need to bend a "L", to make the wire go through the hole in the cap. And, the hole in the cap is elongated. Position the "L" about mid-way, on the head plate, so that there is some room for the wire to slide in the cap hole slot, when the cap is pressed. I straightened the hook, on the pin, and disassembled the unit, before soldering. I think the plastic would melt, if I had not included this extra step. Be careful to not lose the tiny spring. IMO, they are a decent value, for a hobbyist to tinker with.
