Peter Turn on the flash light first by pressing and releasing the tail switch. You will feel and hear a 'click'. Now tap (not pressing hard) the tail switch once to switch to the next mode. There should be no 'clicking' sound. Every tap will make the flash light go to the next mode. You can cycle all 5 different modes by continuing the taps. If you want to turn off the flash light, press and release the tail switch again (with the 'clicking' sound). Hope this helps.
