It's a nice kit for beginners and for oldschool buddies :). I write small review in russian at http://qsl.net/rw6hrm/html/7amrx.htm (sorry, but my English is sooooo bad).

I built this device in a couple of hours but am dissatisfied with the finished unit. The batteries do not fit properly and pop out their position due to the battery contacts. I had to glue in some foam to properly hold the batteries. The soldering of the antenna wires is quite difficult --even with my 35 years experience as an Analog design engineer with massive experience in building projects. The location of the IF transformer coils requires you to translate chinese symbols on the schematic using the internet but even then, The first IF coil slug is black and not red as some websites show in pictures of the completed unit. There are several websites mixing up the white and yellow IF cans. The proper placement is: B2-black, B3-White, B4-yellow, and B5-Green---at least that is what the schematic says. My radio worked but it is not an example of a good AM radio. You can listen to the ball game on it but don't expect much more. The amplifier transformers are also not identified on the schematic--I used the green as the first or primary transformer, B6 and red as the output transformer, B7. I built the circuit just to have a little fun as I am retired now (but not very old). AM ferrite antennas are very directional. The tuning dial "needle" sticker is VERY basic and unattractive. I think you are better off buying a working, old transistor radio from Ebay for better fit and finish if you want better tuning, sound and battery retention. I did like the use of two AA batteries over the traditional 9V battery for cost and availability. That is actually one of the key reasons I purchased this radio.

It is a complete radio kit, and I strongly advise you to look at the pictorial and schematic posted elsewhere in the information on this radio. That is ALL the information you will get. If that is not enough for you to build it, do not buy it! For me that is plenty of information and I am looking very forward to building it. There are a few pieces of advice I want to give: They don't give an order to assemble it. My advice is to solder the smallest components first - resistors, diodes, disc capacitors, electrolytics, I.F. cans, audio transformers. The plastic bracket for the loopstick goes between the PC board and the variable capacitor. The Blue / Blue audio transformer is input, the Red / Yellow is output. There are five "test points" on the PCB. These MUST be soldered across (suggestion - use a bit of wire that you clipped from a component lead). If you don't do this the radio will not work! I will try to upload a picture. The case is not a quality ABS plastic that most radios use - it is a cheap styrene - and thin at that. It is likely to break if dropped. The speaker comes mounted into the case with two dabs of hot melt glue, and mine is loose. The small dabs of RTV silicone will fix this nicely. If the speaker is left loose it will likely rattle.

I bought this for my wife, who is also a ham radio novice, and she was very enthousiast about it. I did not help her, until she had to place the trimmers. There was a very clear manual and all the steps where followed as described. The only thing with the trimmers is that they differ in color for some reason in these radio's. So if you look them up on the banggood site you will find different models with different kinds of trimmer colors. I noticed there is one specific trimmer which has no internal capacitor, and that one must be placed at the frontend of the receiver. B2 to B6 are described in the schematic, but no colors are mentioned. (at least not in english). After she had build the radio it worked very good, with pretty loud audio. She had a lot of fun building it.

Its so cheap, its so easy to build and its just what a budding enthusiast needs to get started in electronics. Here in the UK radio amateurs who wish to take the Radio Amateurs Exam have to pass a competency test and build an electronics project (homebrew or bought kit) and show an understanding of its working and soldering skills. This little kits is ideal for that. Nice quality components and I am still amazed how they can bundle i so cheap. Well done BangGood another great product. If I did have a grumble, the instructions are a little hard to read but get an Emler to help were needed. Some good literature online and photos as it is not very clear where each IF coil goes but still its built with little effort and tuned with minimum of fuss.

I saw one of these radios being assembled by a person I subscribe to on YouTube and had to try it for my self. It went together in about 2-3 hours and was overall a fun project. I’m sure the other reviewers have mentioned that the directions/build sheet is printed in Chinese but the electrical values are recognizable. The biggest possible issue someone may encounter is the placement of the IF/Oscillator transformers and the audio transformers. The IF/Oscillator colors are printed as Chinese characters on the schematic. If you compare the character to the chart on the schematic for resistor values you can cross the character/number to the number/color would be in English. Several good videos on YouTube exist detailing the assembly of this radio so a novice should have no trouble getting help/tips for putting this together.
