I was disappointed to get the folded dipole PCB antennas shown here with this receiver, they are flimsy, the newer wire type (fully enclosed in heat shrink) are much more durable, dare I say better. I use OpenTx on a 12S and after multiple FrSky updates the R9 system seems to work well enough. I bought the R9/M as a backup, redundant rx 868 to go with a G-RX8 on 2.4 and it seems to switch from one tx/rx to the other seamlessly via SBus so that's a plus point. I see dual-band as the way things are going. This is a cheaper alternative to the Crossfire system and a fraction of the price of the latest Jeti dual-band. There have been many concerns about the RSSI readings this unit gives so I should treat them carefully, try and establish your own failsafe range rather than trust the numbers. It is surprising the range one can get with 25mW, they say up to 10km and I reckon 5km in the air is easy enough given correct sighting of the antennas on the model. Watch out with quads though (noise from motors, ESCs, VTX etc) This is further than the LOS. I like it, it seems to work for me , I just wish FrSky would not use early adopters for their beta testing.

Since the new flex firmware doesn't allow you to set the power and frequency independently until the new opentx 2.2.3 will come out I don't recommend this one to be used in Europe.

Great cost effective alternative to TBS Crossfire 900Mhz Rx. Great range and no issues so far.

The old style antennas actually fit my fixed wing better than the first R9 receiver (new antennas) that came with my R9M/R9 kit. Range seems just as good. Good product.
